Air Source Heat Pump & UFH For New Build – Heswall

Hitachi Air Source Heat Pump Installation

In the summer of 2017 we were asked to suggest suitable renewable heating options for an new build oak frame house in the Wirral. The chosen solution was an 8kW Hitachi air source heat pump paired with underfloor heating on the ground floor and energy efficient radiators upstairs to provide 100% of the property’s heating and hot water.

A detailed SAP calculation had been completed detailing the construction of the building. From this a heat loss calculation was carried out and the size of the heat pump matched to the buildings heat load. The heat pump was located next to a barn 10 meters from the property plant room. A trench was dug and 28mm pre-insulated pipe was installed to transfer the heat.

System Specification

The Heat Pump – An 8kW Hitachi Air Source Heat Pump was selected to meet the property’s heat demand.

The Cylinder – A 300 litre twin coil air source heat pump cylinder was installed in the plant room. The second coil is for a solar thermal panel installed on the roof.

The Control Unit – A Hitachi control mirror board was installed in the plant room along with the pumps and zone valves required.

Underfloor Heating (UFH) For New Build Oak Frame House

The client had a blank canvas at when it came to the heat emitters for their new build oak frame property. They opted for underfloor heating throughout the ground floor and energy efficient radiators upstairs.

Once the underfloor heating gets the property to temperature the house takes on a lovely, consistent warm feeling. Paired with an Air Source Heat Pump the temperature stays constant and there is no requirement to constantly turn the temperature up and down as is often the case with a gas or oil boiler.

Underfloor Heating System Specification

The Underfloor Heating Pipework – Prowarm UFH pipework is aluminium lined and fluoropolymer externally providing exceptional heat transfer properties.

The Underfloor Heating Pumps – High quality Grundfos manifold pumps are used to power the UFH system

The Thermostats – Heatmiser Neo Air stats are used throughout. Wirless and WiFi enabled allowing access to heating controls from a phone or laptop
