UPDATE: The first 6 months of this installation’s generation has seen it outperform our original quote by 12%!
Portsmouth Surgical Equipment Ltd are designers and makers of high quality equipment used in operating theatres. They decided to maximise the installation size at their distribution centre in Portsmouth in order to lower their energy costs and receive a new stream of income through the lucrative Feed-in Tariff (FIT). The 249.25kW installation will meet their energy demands throughout the day – and will even see the group send excess energy to the grid, all whilst benefiting from the Export Tariff.
This installation is comprised of 997 SolarWorld 250W panels. SolarWorld panels come with a 25-year linear performance guarantee, meaning our clients can be happy that the panels will continue to perform well for the duration of the FIT. The panels were connected to 8 ABB TRIO-27.6 inverters. These inverters convert the energy generated from the panels into usable power and allow the installation to benefit from the FIT.
The Feed-in Tariff (FIT) scheme is a UK Government programme that is designed to encourage and benefit installers of smaller renewable electricity generation systems. Through the FIT, you can be paid for any electricity you generate if you have installed one of the eligible technologies, such as solar PV, a wind or hydro turbine or a micro CHP.
Portsmouth surgical will generate around 270,000kWh’s per year from their PV system. This equates to around £4,995 per year from tariff payments based in feed in tariff figures as of April 2018. To find out more about the feed in tariff have a look at our article here.
The export tariff is another tariff paid on top of the FIT. This sees The National Grid buy back any energy generated by your installation that isn’t used by the building. This means that any surplus energy generated is not wasted and your installation will have an even greater ROI. The Export Tariff as of April 2018 is 5.03p/kWh and will reward Portsmouth Surgical Equipment with £3,242 per year.
The Greener Group have been installing a suite of renewable energy products since 2010 and have gained a wealth of experience over the years. Working with clients to guide and inform, we take a project from design to completion. If you are considering one or several technologies for your property please get in touch to discuss the project.
